Sweet Lassi Recipe | Make Refreshing Lassi at Home | AamRus
Lassi is one of the popular refreshing drinks that bring relief from the scorching heat of Indian summer. A favourite in most Indian households, there are many lassi recipes, each with a twist here or there.
Today, I will share my family’s recipe for sweet lassi. Super quick to make, this lassi recipe has been doing the rounds in our family for generations and has a special place in our hearts.
A bit of tweak here or there, and many variations of the lassi can be made with this recipe, mango lassi, strawberry lassi, kesar-pista lassi, being some.
Here’s the Lassi Recipe
Ingredients
1 cup chilled curd (preferably homemade)
1/4th cup water
1 tablespoon sugar (you can also take boora, raw sugar)
1/4th teaspoon cardamom powder
Chopped nuts to garnish (optional)
Ice cubes, as few as possible
Method
- Whisk the chilled curd in a large bowl, till it is nice and smooth and no lumps remain.
- Now transfer the mix to a mixer.
- Add sugar, ice cubes and cardamom powder. Blend well.
- Now, add water and blend some more, till the lassi is thick and frothy.
- Taste, and add sugar, if required.
- Pour into tall glasses and garnish with mint leaves and enjoy!!
The flavour of mint leaves in sweet lassi takes the taste of the lassi to the next level!
In conclusion, here are some tips to make lassi
- Preferably use homemade curd
- Make curd with full-fat milk so that the lassi is thick and creamy.
- Though I have given the quantity of water in the recipe, the lassi should be of thick consistency. So use only chilled water and only as little as possible.
- In the same vein, use as few ice cubes as possible, as they tend to make the lassi watery.
- Adding mint leaves and cardamom powder will lift the flavour of the lassi.
- While my lassi recipe doesn’t mention milk, but in case the curd is sour, we need to add a little milk to reduce the sourness and give it a creamy flavour.
So, this was the lassi recipe of our family, quick to make and lip-smacking to taste! Mango lassi is another favourite you could try.
